Charming? Check. Rustic? Check. Gorgeous? You bet. Good Roots Farm and Gardens is 40 acres of South Dakota heaven. Our restored barn (built in 1927)has a main floor plus an elegant vaulted loft ceiling with beautiful maple flooring, great for dancing. The loft seats up to 160 seated ceremony guests with a generous processional aisle. For banqueting, both levels can serve 100 at eight foot banquet-style tables /chairs. The main floor has a vintage bar and unique extra-wide staircase.
Amenities include eight-foot white banquet-style tables and chairs for 200 guests — indoors and/or out. We have vintage galvanized wash tubs for soda, barrels topped with an old door for a showcase table, antique tables, and rustic decor that can be dressed up or down. Indoor handicap-accessible bathrooms are attractive and convenient. The adjacent “Get Ready Room” for dressing is spacious and inviting. Both barn levels have built-in audio and you are welcome to use our mobile sound system with hand-held microphone and stand, outside as well. The ground-level patio connected to the barn is for relaxing, supplemental eating space and lighted dancing under the stars. There’s plenty of room for your rental tent to accommodate up to 400 guests. Enjoy two adjacent, spacious, well-appointed yards. We offer a portable gazebo, flower circle that seats 100 +, trees including a “wedding “willow, seven different ceremony locations, yard games- even a big old belfry bell to ring in the celebrating. We offer plenty of parking and picturesque photo sites. You are welcome to take your engagement photos here.
Available for rent: mismatched vintage dinner plates, blue camp plates, glassware and stemmed goblets, Oneida silverware, vases, and wood circles. Hayrides and the gabion fire pit provide extra fun for a nominal fee.
Catering: Eats? We can create savory/ sweet custom pizzas, bake them up in our outdoor, wood-fired ovens and serve them up buffet-style for 50 or so guests (20 person minimum) or discuss for larger groups. Many pizza toppings are harvested fresh from our organic gardens. We also create self-serve garden salads, perfect for rehearsal dinners or wedding. Also, we invite you to inquire about in-house catering or you can secure your own caterer. You h ave access to the adjacent commercial kitchen for light kitchen prep and with dedicated refrigerator space and access to a freezer.
Beer/wine: Having secured a beer and wine license, Good Roots Farm and Gardens, LLC supplies the beer and wine products for your event. Expenses (napkins, cups, etc.) and our bartender are factored into our prices and do not exceed those charged similarly in Brookings. You are free to do a host bar (someone pay for the guest’s drinks) or a cash bar (guests pay for drinks) or a combo of the two. No beer or wine may be brought in from outside, and no hard liquor though you are welcome to provide soft drinks, water and ice for your guests. Feel free to use the double zinc tub for beverage serving. You would meet with us personally or on the phone several weeks prior to your event to order beer and wine products from us.
Rentals: Contact Julie to rent any of these items: Antique vintage mismatched dinner plates or blue speckled camp plates ($1.00 ea. Confirm your date: Your signature on the contract and half payment down secures your date on our website calendar. Booking window is from May through Oct. Most couples rent from Friday early morning to Sunday noon, which offers relaxed setup flexibility and increased event opportunity, but renting by the day is fine, as well.
